Vaccines for Kittens & Cats

Cats are said to have nine lives but they still need some form of protection from illnesses. As kittens they are extremely vulnerable to infections from parasites and life-threatening diseases. Vaccines are pain-free and effective ways to boost their immune systems and help them fight off any illness in their environment. To keep your loyal companion protected, our team can create a vaccination plan to ensure they don’t miss any doses.

Which vaccines does my kitten/cat need?

Even if your cat stays indoors it is recommended they be vaccinated. We recommend kittens and cats be vaccinated against diseases that are easily contracted. The vaccines that may be recommended for your pet include:

1. FVRCP (Panleukopenia, Calicivirus, Rhinotracheitis)
2. Rabies
3. Feline distemper
4. Leukemia

When should kittens/cats be vaccinated?

Kittens should begin their vaccinations at 8-weeks-old. Here’s a timeline of which vaccines your kitten needs:

• 8-10 weeks: FVRCP
• 11-14 weeks: FVRCP and Feline Leukemia
• 16-weeks and older: Rabies, FVRCP and Feline Leukemia

When a year has passed your pet may need their booster shots.

How often should my adult cat be vaccinated?

Is it safe to vaccinate my pet?

Vaccines undergo a series of testing to ensure that they are safe and effective for pets. Side effects are rare. When they do occur, they are often within 24 hours and may include, vomiting, diarrhea, facial swelling or pain at the site of the injection. Feel free to discuss any concerns with your veterinarian prior to any vaccine.
