Ultrasound and X-ray

Sometimes physical exams aren’t enough to diagnose your pet. In veterinary medicine we use ultrasounds and X-rays to get a better look at the internal structures of their body. These tools allow us to gather and analyze information about your pet’s health. They are both non-invasive and can help vets diagnose conditions within a matter of minutes.

Why would my pet need ultrasounds or X-rays?

Our veterinarians recommend X-rays for your pet to examine hard structures on their body such as ligaments, joints and bones. Radiology can diagnose fractures, gallstones, arthritis and identify foreign objects that they swallowed. Ultrasounds on the other hand show soft internal organs and structures. An ultrasound can identify pregnancies, tumours, cysts and determine how well the kidneys, heart and lungs are functioning. Most of the time we perform both procedures together to rule out conditions that are not diagnosed by the other.

Are these procedures safe for my pet?

Yes! Ultrasounds are 100% radiation free. The equipment we use for X-rays is very advanced so your pet is exposed to less radiation.
